Topping golf shots is one of the most common of all errors club golfers make, I've even done a few myself since I've been a professional!!!! Like most things there's always some wise words of advice from our golfing pals when someone hits a 'top'. Generally it something like ' You lifted your head'!!!! Great advice or not? In my opinion it's not great advice and here's why.
At a basic level what's happened when the ball is 'topped'? Simply that the club has hit the ball too high up. If we did that in other sports such as tennis and we tried to hit a shot and the ball caught the bottom of the racket, I think we would notice what happened and move on. We wouldn't need any advice. So how do we stop hitting 'tops'? I could give a smart answer like 'Stop playing golf!!!' but that won't help!!!
If you've got the Core and you've seen the DVD and the analogy of the grip end lying on the floor. I think you can start to see how the Core must be swung to strike the grip end of the club. Now the grip end is just a target on the floor it could be a golf ball, so if it was a golf ball you would need to swing the Core in the same way. This swing/motion 'drives' the ball forward and in my opinion so many 'tops' happen because the golfer isn't trying to swing the club in this way but instead is trying to 'lift' the ball into the air.
Owning the Core will help you get a better feel for swinging the golf club in the correct manner. But you could always just listen to your pal who keeps telling you to 'Keep your head down'!!!!!
