Tournament Play 3 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Paul!

First of all i want to say thank you on making such a great swing tool, it really makes golf simple.
And i have been working quite alot with my coach, trying to make things more simple, because i tend to make things very difficult.
and at practice everything looks great!

But when i am playing tournaments i always tend to not trust my swing and making it difficult again , what can i do to be more confident when playing tournaments, and start trusting my swing?

Cheers

Thor

Hi Thor

Thank you for your comments about the Core.

The question you've asked about improving performance is probably the most commom question asked by low handicap players wishing to get to the 'next level'. Golf can become far more of a mental game once you learn how to hit the ball relatively consistently

From my own experience of playing golf and searching for a 'belief' in something, the challenge was always to deal with things in my control. So often I would get upset by things outside of my control, such as playing partners annoying me, feeling I was getting all the bad luck, or thinking I'd had an unlucky tee off time in the bad conditions!!!! All of these things and many more where out of my control but did affect me when I went out to play golf.

I would suggest you try a couple of things:

Take charge of the things that you control, e.g make sure you're well prepared, and that you've thought about the things that annoy you and you're ready to 'deal' with them if they arise. This maybe something for example like, you've recognised everytime you play with a certain 'slow' player you always play badly. I'd like you to recognise that you have no control over that player and try to anticipate playing with him again and 'dealing' with the situation and still playing well.

If we become better at doing the above then we have to look at how can we get better at 'freeing' ourselves up to play golf in an important tournamnet as though it was just any game of golf!!!?

There are a few ways I found that helped me and they came from 2 books I read.

One was the 'Inner game of Golf' and the other was 'Every shot must have a purpose'. In my opinion both of these books are excellent in explaining various exercises that you could implement into your practise and then play which would make you become more 'process' targeted than worrying about your score whilst you're playing.

I think the biggest 'trick' to learn to play golf successfully is to play golf totally absorbed in something other than your score, perhaps a goal that you set yourself before going out on to the course that would be completely achieveable by you whilst you where playing. Both of these books will help you.

Please keep in touch and let me know how you're getting on.

Paul
