Hi Everyone

I was watching some golf on the television the other night and it got me thinking about how many of us watch golf on the television and whether you had ever thought about what you would do if you were given the chance to create your own Golf Championship.

Imagine you had a prize fund of $20 million and first prize was $10 million, we could get any player in the world to compete in OUR championship. But what would we do, where would you play the event, what format would you use, strokeplay or matchplay and who would you want to commentate on the championship and which channel would you use, BBC or SKY?

Below are my ideas if I were ever given the chance, I should be so lucky!!!!


If I was organising a tour event

1) The players would have a maximum of 4 clubs.

(I can still remember playing in club competitions when I was junior at Chester Golf Club and competing in 4 club comps. They where always so much fun and I was always surprised at how well people played and scored. It would be great to see the top players and how they would cope. I think all that would happen is that the best players would win by more shots than usual because they would be more skilful at dealing with the issues of playing with 4 clubs)

2) They would have to wear plus 4s

(I just thought this would be a pretty cool thing to do just for a change)

3) It would be played around the Old course at St Andrews with a 40 mile an hour wind. (This maybe difficult to organise!!!)

(I am picking the Old Course as the venue because it is my favourite course and because I love the city of St Andrews for how it makes me feel each time I go there.)

4) Everyone would play the same type of ball.

(What type of ball would I pick? I am not sure but it would be great to see every player use the same ball even if they had to have their own particular sponsors name on it.)

5) The ball would be played as it lay, no matter what!!(No free drops)

(This would not be an issue on a links course, but I would be very particular about drops from grandstands. There would not be any!!!!!)

6) Peter Alliss would have to be the commentator on TV.

(I would also only have the BBC televise my event because you would know the program would not be filled with adverts every 5 minutes. Does not that drive you crazy?)
