Happy New Year to everyone and welcome to the "Year of Consistency"
Todays chat is all about probably golfs most used word, consistency!! It is the word that always comes up during a golf lesson. Everybody wants more consistency, I would imagine even Tiger would like to be more consistent, hard to believe I know but I am sure he is always striving to get just that little bit better every day.
Below are some thoughts of mine on consistency. Take a look to see if we can change YOUR CONSISTENCY IN 2009.
Top 5 ideas for a golfer who is inconsistent
· Think about what would bring consistency?
(What has brought consistency in other things you have learnt in your life? If I where to answer the question I would say I had a feel for what I was learning. Now if that thing involves a sport with say a ball to hit, it would make sense to develop a feel for the thing that hits the ball i.e. the club)
· Consistency of what? Swing, positions, or the ball?
(Most people I see for lessons who are starting to reach a point of frustration with golf are incredibly consistent and it does not seem to help. But what is it that they are consistent with? Usually it is their set up and this is the thing that confuses people. They set up in a very similar way each time and produce such different shots that they think Golf can not be the game for me!!)
(So if we look at what it is that you want consistency of, it has got to be the point at which the club hits the ball and doing the same thing time after time. If we could all do that we would have consistency over the ball.)
· Consistency over the ball comes when you apply the clubface in the same way to the ball at impact time after time after time.
· To do this, the player must have a feel for the point at which the club hits the ball.
· Work on hitting shots with an intention of creating the same impact with the club on ball
(How do we develop this? Well that is the secret and if you take a look at the DVD on the website I am sure you will get some great ideas about how to improve your consistency)
Good golfing
