Core Golf was recently attending the 'Biggest Golf Show on Earth' held in Orlando at the end of January.

Can you imagine an indoor area that stretches for over 1 mile and is roughly a football pitch wide??? Well that's how BIG the trade show was!!!!

What was Core Golf doing there? Well we were attending the show to launch over in the USA the Core and explain the benefits of it to anyone and everyone who was willing to listen!!

I did get a chance to have a look at some other things and yes you've guessed it you wouldn't believe the crazy and amazing things that are being invented and sold in the golf market.

I had a few interesting conversations with people and sampled their products. One of the most interesting and I'm sure a few of you have already seen it was the SAM LAB putting machine. Essentially it's a very precise measuring device which collects amazing amounts of information when you take a putt. I've always considered myself a good putter but it was very interesting to see how, what I thought was going on when I putted matched up to what was going on in reality.

Obviously the machine doesn't lie and shows all sorts of information which can be quite intimidating!!! One aspect that I found very difficult was the aim of the putter at address and how the machine measures this. To get the putter face square at address was incredibly difficult and even when you thought you hadn't moved it, your breathing seemed to alter it fractionally. The machine can pick up such small amounts that they're not even visable to the naked eye!!

Apparently when Tiger was measured on the machine his consistency was amazing, in that he did the same thing time after time. What amazed everyone was that Tiger started with his putter face 4 degrees open to the target and then as he hit the ball he squared the face to be perfectly square!!! and he did this putt after putt. He also had an amazing consistency of repeating the same tempo in his putting stroke.

What amazes me about modern technology is the information that the coach and the pupil can gather. How that information is used is probably the critical thing though.

There's no question that there have been many many brilliant putters over the years who have learnt the skill of getting the ball in the hole without all this modern technology!! How did all these people do that?? How did they learn to putt and continue to trust themselves without the help of machines!!! Well information can help but the reality is that the best putters have the best FEEL and over the course of their development they retain a freedom to TRUST themselves when under pressure.

It's very obvious to me that many good players become worse as putters as they get older and I'm sure there are many reasons for this but I'm sure a reliance on technology to 'Correct the problem' rather than looking at the skills of putting doesn't help them develop a confidence and a free putting stroke.
